Telecommunications/Data Technician

About us

CTS provides telecommunications and data installation services to customers in the Bi-State St. Louis area and Springfield, IL. We also offer service and installation outside our primary geographic area as needed. Our core voice products include Avaya IP Office and CTS Elevate Cloud UCaaS. We support a variety of systems, with a strong focus on Avaya Partner ACS, ESI, and Avaya IP Office.

Job Responsibilities

As a Telecommunications Technician at CTS, you will be responsible for:

  • Installing, servicing, and maintaining various phone systems, with a strong emphasis on Avaya IP Office.
  • Setting up small business network equipment, including routers, firewalls, and managed Layer 3 switches.
  • Implementing Wi-Fi access points and controllers.
  • Installing phone/data cabling, A/V cabling (including coaxial), and fiber in accordance with industry standards.
  • Installing A/V equipment, camera systems, and paging systems.
  • Performing data gathering, installation, training, wiring, and troubleshooting.
  • Participating in the on-call rotation schedule.
  • Providing remote troubleshooting and MAC (Moves, Adds, and Changes) work when possible.
  • Maintaining company-provided tools and equipment, including vehicles, cell phones, and laptops.
  • Demonstrating self-motivation, professionalism, and a strong sense of urgency in all service-related activities.
  • Managing and overseeing projects as needed.

Requirements

VOIP experience is required. Additional qualifications include:

  • Experience with Avaya products, particularly IP Office.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of cabling color codes and termination standards.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities to troubleshoot efficiently.
  • Familiarity with phone technician toolkits and their operation.
Technical Knowledge:
  • Data/network connections
  • HyperTerminal and ProComm
  • Microsoft Office products
  • TCP/IP networking
  • Network routing and Layer 3 managed switches
  • TFTP, FTP, HTTPS protocols
  • Basic electrical knowledge
